History
On October 15th, 2023, two long time Tulsa congregations merged to meet as one. Going forward together now as the Midtown Church of Christ.
The 10th & Rockford Church of Christ began in 1916 with a few souls meeting in the Whittier Elementary School for worship services. Throughout the first few years there were more meeting location changes, and the membership grew to the point that in 1922 a property near downtown at 10th & Rockford was purchased. A new brick building was erected on the property in 1933 and underwent many structural changes over the years.
The 29th & Yale Church of Christ began in the mid-1950s in what was then southeast Tulsa. This area promised to be one of the fastest growing parts of the city. After many meetings, men from several Tulsa congregations decided on a new work and they started meeting in 1956 at Hoover Elementary. In July of that year, two acres were contracted at 29th & Yale for their new building.
Opportunities opened up in early 2023 for the two congregations to consider a merger. Once the decision was made, things fell into place quickly as the 10th & Rockford building was sold and by mid-October the two were meeting as one at the 29th & Yale location.
There is one thing that has not changed. The Midtown Church of Christ is committed to remaining faithful to God’s Word.
